Netflix’s The Witcher: Cast vs. Video Game Characters
A player count increase to this extent has not been seen since 2016 when CD Projekt Red released the game’s DLC, Blood and Wine, as reported by PlayTracker.
Netflix’s The Witcher premiered on December 20, adapted by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich by author Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels, and stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer.
Speaking to IGN at San Diego Comic Con, Hissrich explained the importance of the short stories for the Netflix adaptation.
“I mean, for me, you can’t skip the short stories. It’s absolutely where the world building takes place and where the foundation of this world is built,” Hissrich said.
Cavill told IGN although he’s a huge fan of the books, he also loves The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, saying he’s played it through multiple times, and that acting in the show is similar to playing the game – but in a different form.

Cavill also explained to IGN how his inspiration for the voice of Geralt came largely from Doug Cockle’s voiceover performance in The Witcher 3.
“… When I heard Doug Cockle’s incredible performance in Witcher 3 – which I’ve heard time after time because I’ve played the games a lot – I realized that I could utilize something like that, and create [Geralt’s] stony exterior,” Cavill said.
