Warning: We don’t know the potential dangers of using these Pokemon, breeding them, etc. We also do not know if they have any unusual characteristics etc. Use these mons at your own risk.
Players have reported getting Pokemon not yet in Sword and Shield through Max Raid Battles and (most commonly) Surprise Trades, ex.u/Prawn got a Liteen through Link Trade. Others examples include game journalist Laura Kate Dale who has Tweeted about getting a Squirtle through Surprise Trade saying “[this Pokemon] seem[s] to work totally fine” but that she’s keep an eye out for irregularities.
So if you’re looking to get these Pokemon try your hand at Surprise Trade.
Of course, the safest thing to do is not use these Pokemon but at the time of writing it doesn’t seem to corrupt your save file or ban you from online features. Some of these Pokemon may be coming to the game when the 2 upcoming DLCs are released. You can see the full list of those new and old returning Pokemon here.
What is Surprise Trade?
Surprise Trade is a new feature/mechanic but it’s similar to Wonder Trades from previous Pokemon games. This unique kind of trade involves you picking any Pokemon, from any box, and putting it up to Trade. You don’t know what you’re going to get back and that’s the Surprise!
This is unlike regular trades, where you agree to what you’re getting beforehand.
Surprise Trade works locally or online.
