Google announced on Twitter
can now be played on any Chromecast Ultra.Previously, the only Chromecasts compatible with Stadia were the ones that shipped with the Stadia controllers
. in either the Founders or Premiere bundles. Stadia is still not compatible with TVs that have Chromecast built-in. In a follow-up tweet, Google said it will add more compatible devices in the future
In addition to Chromecast Ultra devices, current players can stream games with Stadia on Chrome OS tablets and Google Pixel phones. Stadia Base is scheduled to launch next year
, which will allow free access to Stadia’s basic features, as well as an option for players to upgrade to Stadia Pro.
Google previously announced plans to expand Stadia to other devices over time, including Mac devices and a wider range of smartphones.

Stadia had a rocky launch, with shipment delays, inconsistent performance, and some fan backlash. More recently, we learned that the Stadia release of Borderlands 3 will only include updates that launched through late October. A rough start doesn’t necessarily mean it’s doomed forever, though, as we’ve seen other rough launches that have improved over time.
