How do you get a three-star island rating in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
It’s likely that you have already started taking many of the steps required to improve your rating, like starting your own garden, building fences, and creating communal spaces for your villagers. Those are great first steps to take! Use the steps below to further improve your island’s star rating so you can enjoy the sound of K.K.’s smooth melodies live:
- Unlock Island Evaluations
- Move in 7 or more villagers
- Rid your island of all weeds
- Build fences around town
- Plant plenty of flowers and water them
- Connect all the parts of your island by adding bridges and inclines
- Build and place 25 different pieces of exterior furniture and DIY items (use your miles at the Nook Stop!)
Unlocking island evaluations requires you to upgrade resident services in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is its own unique mission. You have to pay off your Deserted Island Getaway Package which can be done by completing various tasks around the island on your first few days in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Check out our beginner’s guide which walks you through all of that.
Next, you’ll need to build Nook’s Cranny. Speak with Tom Nook after paying off your deserted island package and ask about upgrading your tent into a house. After your home is built (takes about a day), head back to resident services and talk to Timmy about opening a store. He’ll ask for help collecting resources. After bringing him all of the resources, Timmy will give you the building plot for Nook’s Cranny. Place it down somewhere on the island and wait for construction to complete (takes another day).Next on the list is building a bridge and three houses for incoming villagers. Speak to Tom Nook again, once Nook’s Cranny is finished. He’ll ask for help building houses for villagers but before that, he’ll ask you to build a bridge. Once that bridge is complete, he’ll give you the building plots for the villagers.
Placing down plots for villagers is simple enough, but building the interior and exterior furniture for each home is time-consuming. Luckily, this will be the only time you have to do this much building for incoming villagers.
Once all the villagers are moved in, resident services will undergo construction. When it opens again, Tom Nook will ask you to build a campground so new villagers can come to visit the island and move in. Building the campground will unlock island evaluations that you can begin asking Isabelle about. She will also offer advice on how to make the town better and raise the island’s rating.
